Amanda likes to tell a story, creating scenes that capture details that often slip between the floorboards. Full of acoustic instrumentation, harmony, and simplicity, her live performances channel the energy and clarity of an Andrew Wyeth painting. Bridging the worlds of alt-country, Americana, and folk, singer/songwriter Amanda Penecale has opened for artists like Justin Townse Earle, Catie Curtis and David Ford.
In 2007 Amanda was encouraged to play her music out by a local music journalist and she hasn’t looked back. Since then Amanda has recorded 2 EP’s at Cambridge Sound Studios in Newtown Pa with Grammy Nominated Jim Salamone and she has played some of Philadelphia’s finest venues including: World Cafe Live, The Tin Angel, The Hard Rock Cafe, John and Peters, Milkboy Coffee, Chaplin’s, Steel City, and Puck Live.
Her song “Say It Out Loud” was selected by Philadelphia Independent radio station, 88.5 WXPN, as a Philly Local Pick of the Day, and she was also a semi finalist in the Philadelphia Songwriters Project in the summer of 2008.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Amanda is currently working on a new full-length album. She now lives and teaches in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY along with her canine companion Lyra.
“…an engaging lyricist who extracts insight, solace and even bittersweet humor from moments both small and shattering…she conveys an emotional maturity…” -Naila Francis (Bucks County Courier Times)
"Her voice has a richness that is lacking among many of the current waifs of whining who have recently afflicted local stages. Statuesque and polite, Penecale has the wherewithal to make a serious and thoughtful effort in show biz." -David Wannop, Montgomery Newspapers, Ticket
“Amanda Penecale's second EP, Chalkboard is nice lyrical ride. Amanda's soulful voice is reminiscent of Natalie Merchant and in much the same way it seems she can tell just about any type of story. We're not sure what she plans for the future but the lack of pretentiousness in her voice has us looking forward to her first full album. “ -Origivation Magazine
“Amanda Penecale is a folk singer based out of Warminster Pennsylvania. The title "folk" may be a little misleading, since her music contains hints of country, bluegrass, and even a little jazz. The use of multiple instruments in her songs, such as mandolin and a classical style violin set her apart from the multitude of folk singer songwriters that are often backed up only by an acoustic guitar, leading to a wholly unique, genre crossing sound. She sings her original songs in a crystal clear voice that lacks the shyness that is also often found in a lot of singer/songwriters. This is enjoyable music no matter what your preferred genre.” -The indie Music Review
